Re: Game Development: Duckwall
I made a post about the pvp fairly recently.
The problem is new players (mostly hermits) quit before really experincing what the game offers which peaks in my imo when playing with or against other players.
But they rarely get there becuase all they see is a non policed bot using, noob stomping bully play ground. People will quit even if they didn't die because of the isolated stress.
The combat system just needs an ingame optional tutorial (in the charecter creation area) where an NPC will spar with you until you get the idea of colors and openings. Add to that an ingame larping journal/manual that would explain the beginners steps to an early game palisade and common game culture knowledge
This however is just meant to increase the odds of meeting friends and not dying. The game tone is inherently unfriendly (as survival game should be) and nothing could or should be done about it.
Seriously though ban bots. It's the only inexcusable thing about the game to me. Monotony is how people get better things and better at things. No short cuts. If you must allow automation, do it ingame so it's a fair regulated tool (God knows mills need more uses). I am not even going to get in to spy/scouting combat bots...

I think if you will name a single MMO that really won a war with bot users, loftorb will consider to ban bots.Kinglazy wrote:Seriously though ban bots. Botting in HnH is relatively harmless compared to other MMOs because there is no centralized currency like gold in World of Warcraft. They do share bot clients in the Steam Workshop last time I checked and the forum makes no secret out of botting. Yes, that information should also be obvious to new players who do not visit the forum because devs being cool with it is very unexpected. An in-game notification or some kind of ToS you agree to during character creation that clearly states "Use a bot, you idiot."
Do J&L ban players for RMTing tokens and hats on 3rd party websites (asking for a friend)?

It's prohibited but rarely enforeced. Kinda desuetude. It mostly regulated by community itself - I never seen plain sign rmt ads, but noone really care if you buy hat you are interested in by fiat instead of tokens. So I would say - no.Frogg wrote: Do J&L ban players for RMTing tokens and hats on 3rd party websites (asking for a friend)?
This world introduced some insane bot stuff (that RTS style pvp bots were kinda funny), but the topic is exaggerated. In most of the cases, people that have more then you are just playing the game more in bigger groups that raises time efficiency. Nine out of ten complaints about bots come from complete newbies and/or hermits.

By that logic let's abolish all laws since crime has never ceased in history of man kind. Even if they never reach a point in the game where botting is competitive, how are most players going to react to a game that the devs of don't just allow bots, but encourage it?KwonChiMin wrote: I think if you will name a single MMO that really won a war with bot users, loftorb will consider to ban bots.
The game is already unconventional and a hard sell. The "bot fest" title doesn't help.

This post should be quoted on every page of every update thread from now on.Zentetsuken wrote:
This game have evolved over the last 15 years into a game that just shouldn't be open world forced PVP.
There is an insane amount of content, an infinite grind, and the idea of PVP as a way to fight over resources and space or secure better materials for your own village hasn't been a thing since legacy.
Current day PVP in this game is a minigame enjoyed by factions and participated in for no other reason than to flex on the other faction members. The reward is entirely social and enjoyed out of the game.
After about 1 month, PVP becomes a tool for a few people who actively want to upset other players and if you tell me you don't think its detrimental to the longevity of the playerbase and isn't the reason why loads of new players have quit, you're just being dishonest.
The "but it's a pvp permadeath game, they shouldn't be mad" arguement only makes sense if you can argue unironically, and with a straight face, that the game has been developed with this in mind for any amount of time. (it hasn't)
The game itself is a bait and switch, offering an insane breadth of content and larp, and promise of long term enjoyment, experimentation and grind, with an shallow and innaccessible pvp system stapled ontop that is great for the valhalla style faction pvp that occurs, but literally damages the enjoyability of the rest of the game.
PVP is enjoyed by a very specific group of players that make up the vast, vast minority of overall players.
Players who engage in PVP ignore the majortity of the game's content and largely do not play for longer than a few weeks.
The players who engage in PVP that do play for longer than a few weeks motivated by exactly 2 key drivers: upset other players, and/or upset the devs
If open world PVP must remain in the game, choosing to participate should come with major limitations and restribtion, but I agree that it should be tweaked further to ensure that these same limitations don't cause issues for the rest of the playerbase.
In short, it is a mistake to continue to develop any part of this game with PVP in mind. Keep permadeath, and expand on the survival aspects of the game. Remove PVP or simply keep it as a minigame that doesn't require forced participation.

Look dude I get it you don't wanna bend the knee on your 20 year project, but look at the state of your community. Trash.
You could do so much better and deserve to. Your image has been corrupted and that's evident in my bane insulting your GF's alt whose never once posted again.
Edit: I'm bitter about getting banned in december and it bled out here, sorry bud. lmao
Editedit: nevermind, see above

And if we just could be born in another world and not live on this server-planet - that analogy would be valid.Kinglazy wrote:KwonChiMin wrote: By that logic let's abolish all laws since crime has never ceased in history of man kind.
Consider botting as an unofficial credo system - you can play the game without doing a single quest, but you wouldnt be competititve.
