Hey fellas.
I played this game a long time. I come back every few years and make a little base. Did so again a few days ago, I suppose it was right at the start of winter? I don't really remember seasons like this, but I got my pclaim up around when winter started, and now feels like I'm just locked out of a bunch of progression I would normally have at this stage in the game. There's no nettles and string is very rare to make my pali, which also needs snow cleared. There's no food items to make typical staple starter foods, and I have a multitude of injuries tanking stats that I can't heal because the foragables aren't available. I have a deep worm fucking up all my FEPs and no way to heal it, but I have to keep energy up to hunt and forage and continue my progression. Essentially it's a really dumb situation which is telling me to turn off the game and wait it out. Don't know what to say it's bad game design. A new player starting out in winter would just be screwed six ways from sundee with no way to learn or progress the game, no string, no nettle shirts, it's literally items in the tutorial not available in a certain window of time, like why?
First aid items should definitely either be available year-round, or have proper seasonal alternatives to avoid frustrating situations like this where the player is locked out of healing. Tutorial-items crucial to beginner progression (nettles, taproot, ants, etc) should also not be season-locked. I don't think something like this could possibly detract from, or do anything other than simply remove frustrations from the game. It's not even exploitable. It just makes common sense.

Re: Winter Progression & First Aid
Well I didn't realize this entire forum was filled with people bitching about the same thing. Figures it's not changing anytime soon, eh?

It takes more effort, but you can still get Tough Bark from trees to make Bark Cordage, or cut grass or reeds to make twine.nightmare wrote:string is very rare to make my pali

Pali up, traded a neighbor for 2 tansy and description, waiting for cauldron to boil, cooked a meat to prevent starving with the tansy in my inventory and it used it as seasoning. Done with the game for now.VDZ wrote:It takes more effort, but you can still get Tough Bark from trees to make Bark Cordage, or cut grass or reeds to make twine.nightmare wrote:string is very rare to make my pali

I remember, years ago, traveling really far away to find Sage to start gardening it. Cooked some meat for a credo quest after I got back...
A band-aid fix, but I'd personally suggest some way to "toggle off" optional ingredients, and having that be the default state. (Well I guess it just might be anti-QoL for cooks, feel free to ignore.)

On the game critique and ideas side, deep worm should decrease and eventually go away after it reaches 100%, shouldn't really be a forever wound.

Earlier this world, I built a Thatch Basket to put my Glimmermoss in. The boughs fit inside nicely.vatas wrote:I remember, years ago, traveling really far away to find Sage to start gardening it. Cooked some meat for a credo quest after I got back...

I assumed it would go down once my energy was down below a certain threshold but nopeFostik wrote:On the game critique and ideas side, deep worm should decrease and eventually go away after it reaches 100%, shouldn't really be a forever wound.
