Note that you currently cannot control the camera with a Trac-Ball mouse. It makes moving around a very painful experience.

I don't know why not, unless it's the design of your trackball making the key combination difficult to manage. If you have custom mouse software, you should check for remapping keys for a MMB hold. If your mouse software doesn't have that, there are 3rd party tools for it, such as AutoHotKey.
