I'd try to make it a browser game, with WebGL or upcoming WebRender, whatever that is

also make it playable with mouse, gamepad, and tablet

Stay away from anything web. As a game developer you need more skills than you have time to learn, so learning stuff that will be obsolete in a year is a waste of time that could've been used for learning something that will last you a lifetime (maths mostly).

Depends, building some learning projects web based can be helpful as you can quickly iterate and the basic concepts are the same when using webgl.

Not to mention you don't have to follow the latest fad in web frameworks.

Just look at this website!

I'd rather use something like Emscripten to put it on the web.

I really like this website actually. It scales nicely on desktop and mobile, is fast to load on older mobile devices, and has a really nice colour-scheme and aesthetic. Most modern websites fail at least one of those criteria.

I can only imagine how terrible it would be using some bloated flavour of the month javascript framework.

I quite agree with loftar. Supposedly, the proliferation of mobile devices is what drives modern web page design... From what little I do from my undersized device, it's an utter failure on anything less than a 7" tablet (sorry... just not in the mood to do the metric conversion in my head.) Even then, pages can fit poorly. Even on my desktop computer, if I'm not running a browser at least at '720' resolution, they don't necessarily fit right.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
