Re: Carrot Cake
I've been eating carrots but my perception hasn't changed. Can anyone explain why?

Re: Carrot Cake
Eat more until your food bar fills up; also, it might have been that you were eating things other than just carrots and you got a point in a different attribute than the one you wanted (perception).

Re: Carrot Cake
Just to let you know, since the wiki doesn't say it, but caves can be used in place of mines, which means anybody can make any cheese they want if they just find the nearest cave and palisade it off. There could be other entrances, but with how twisty and deep caves are, it's unlikely to be disturbed.Dwarfu wrote:I get you DatOneGuy, but don't you think you are losing a bit of focus here for the sake of arguement?
We are talking about a guy that wants to buy carrot cake for PER fep, not someone that has all the 'high end' food production facilities at their disposal. The only cheese that gives PER fep is what, mothzarella? And that requires a mine - few people starting have access to a mine. They will, however, most likely have wheat, carrots, and be able to find clovers for milk. The cheeses that they'd be able to make don't apply (emmentaler and camembert, and eventually cellar cheddar and brodgar blue cheese). I'm pretty sure they'd have barrels of milk long before they'd be using it all on cheese.
EDIT, oh well, ya'll convinced yet another one with this foolishness...to the ruin of cooks everywhere.

Re: Carrot Cake
I'm well aware you can use caves as the 'mine' component for cheese, you don't need that silly wiki for that.
"...which means anybody can make any cheese they want if..."
Anybody CAN do ANYTHING in game IF they just do it. Still, not everyone is going to have access to a mine or their own personal cave complex.
"...it's unlikely to be disturbed."
It is unlikely any given person will want to kill me on sight or steal my newbie goods or anything else to grief me. It WILL happen.
Again, this is further monkey dust, because the topic was on PER, not cheese in particular, though if you want to continue your blathering about milk/butter, be my guest.

Re: Carrot Cake
This is the unfortunate part, and what causes this. People don't want to be bakers. They don't really want to roleplay. It's not about getting down and dirty, covered with flour, but coming out of it with a pretty pastry. It's about what is most effective for the time, effort, materials, etc etc. People informed the guy that he'd likely be better off using carrots, as milk is not exactly easy to get. Carrots grow, very fast. Carrot cakes, use 2 carrots and 1 butter each. I have a small carrot field. It's only 3x3. It produces 27 carrots roughly 3 times in a 2 day (normal harvest cycle) period. This means to keep myself in carrot cakes I either have to produce at least 40l of milk per day, or hold onto carrots I could otherwise simply be eating for PER until I have more milk.
Unless you're already established with a decent sized herd of animals, and significant fields of high quality, you're not going to be pumping out carrot cakes. It is much much more feasible for a newer player to simply eat carrots. In fact when I first started, this character LIVED off of carrots once I found some, because they grow very fast, and can be eaten or planted. I often had a whole log cabin full of carrots, and I ate nothing else for quite a while. Why subject him to the trouble of making carrot cakes, or the hassle of trying to find a steady supply of them to buy, rather than just telling him that he can just eat the carrots for a slightly lower boost.
Furthermore, for your information, I am not one of "them" you speak of. Do I make cheese? Sure. I make 4 racks full at a time, about twice a month. I am no cheese lover, though I do admit it is good food and good FEP. I was simply trying to allow you, someone who joined only a few weeks ago and thus can't be assumed to have a friggin encyclopedia of all things H&H in his head, in on something that could make it a little easier for you. The guy's already thanked people for the information, and said he'd still like to buy PER food, is probably done caring about the thread, and you're here ranting about people having turned him against your profession of choice.

Re: Carrot Cake
THIS!! Zamte, finally!! THIS is the post I've been trying to pull out of you guys, thank you.
Now anyone with this question can make an informed decision with a level-headed, non-condescending 'I'm superior' attitude do-as-I-tell-you-I'm-a-vet post. "Just eat carrots" is a shitty post.
"... you, someone who joined only a few weeks ago..."
Might want to glance at that again.
I'm not ranting, I'm not attacking anyone, maybe I get snarky sometimes, and if so, I apologize. I'm just trying to get some quality in these posts - people ramble on and throw out one-liners that do nothing for the OP. Yes, he's decided to grow his own carrots. But to tell him, who originally wanted to BUY, not MAKE, carrot cakes, he's better off eating carrots is simply not true. With the way it seems food in general is going, for the benefit, no one should be focusing on any one food anyways, which I think is great. If you have carrots, eat them, but you should be making some carrot cakes to mix in there when you can for maximum benefit. Believe it or not, there are players that don't want to farm anything, have limited time, don't have an army of alts to do every task or have all avenues of production open to them (and maybe never will). I'm not sure I've ever sold carrots - I sure have sold many gold bars worth of carrot cakes, though.
Honesty, I still think the whole 'milk is scarce' attitude is a holdover from previous worlds, especially since the milk requirement for butter was changed. As I said before, if you live near the spawn areas for clovers, even a newish player should have no problem finding enough milk to satisfy their need. In fact, clover/milk gathering is a good newbie profession - I sold barrels of milk just to get my starting tools and other metals. Yes, I ate some carrots to begin with to help get my PER up, but after that I dang sure don't eat them now, the filling is too precious.
These discussions (not arguments) are healthy for the playerbase and for the devs to find areas that may need tweaking. If a mod feels these posts should be cut and moved to a general discussion area, then do so; otherwise, if we can agree we've all spoke our minds, then we can let the thread lay.
"People don't want to be bakers. They don't really want to roleplay."
And this is also not true! I'm telling Jorb!

Re: Carrot Cake
No we provided him with useful information. You on the hand make very long posts that don't seem to have much of a point other than that carrot cakes are fun. And then you agree with zamte who says you're wrong.Dwarfu wrote:people ramble on and throw out one-liners that do nothing for the OP. Yes, he's decided to grow his own carrots.
Why does someone ask for carrot cake? Because they want to raise their perception and took a peak at the wiki and seen that carrot cakes were the highest per food. They automatically assumed that this meant it was the best food as well and worth getting. It is not however. Carrots are for the various reasons mentioned before in this very thread.Dwarfu wrote:But to tell him, who originally wanted to BUY, not MAKE, carrot cakes, he's better off eating carrots is simply not true.
