Darkness and soup!

Post by Rakeki »

I would like an actual day/night cycle where it gets considerably darker. so you have a need for the various lamps etc. and add soup to the cooking items!

at one time the caves were pitch black. and you Had to have a light source to venture in
but the custom clients did away with that :(

Yeah most are playing with full brightness so the lighting doesn't often receive much appreciation, which is a shame because the lighting effects significantly improve the overall ambience and got even better when they added the zoned lighting a few years ago. I wouldn't mind having pitch black underground again.

I do miss the pitch black caves.

but I do think they made the right call in removing it due to custom clients as mentioned, they also added rain which most client turn off.

There is not much point in adding back when there is nightvision clients, just doesn't make sense even though I agree it would be fun to make lighting a real tool in the game.

the reason why was removed because most people just use commands to get rid of it
and Legacy every new world the first thing I did was disable Darkness on the Ender client by just doing I think it was control n
if they reintroduced it people use mods on their clients to disable it again and the people that don't know how to do that will be at the mercy of people in the dark killing them and the default everybody would choose to do is to make it always daylight it would be awesome to have Darkness again but they have to enforce people to stay in the Darkness and I don't think they want to do that extra work the likelihood of it coming back it's very low

What was the point of this reply? You just repeated what I said with more words.

Here's "my three beers in" idea that is probably not implementable: make darkness a dynamic biome that activates every night and makes everything that's not in a radius of a light source interact like thicket. As far as I'm aware no custom client has a way to disable it's effect, so it could work :?

Effects like that should give a small buff to your stats so it's not just LARP stuff.
Darkness could increase Stealth or Psyche.
Rain could increase Will.

+1 to that, it would be very cool, even for pvp encounters for the nutjobs out there. myself, i just take lit up caves as is, cause i took miner role a lot. tbh, the only people that complain about lack of true darkness in caves are non-miners. (what are you doing in the caves anyway, tough guy?)

this really calls out for more weather states, innit? Like sweltering heat, causing your armor to give you blisters but giving +X to UA cause your heated body moves like Bruce Lee, extreme winds smacking your face with shrubbery and dust (if without mask) but while lowering your Perception gives you boost to dodge (ie move away from incoming attack as an extra, time limited combat action).

Tbh, the more we delve into realism the more we demand, envision and expect. But then again we eat guts wrapped in leaves, gorge on brains freshly bashed out of calves (animal younglings, not your overly trained lower leg parts you sicko) skulls, cherish the unborn fetuses of cattle for their inherent life knowledge... correct me if im wrong.
