wat W17 should look like

Post by MightySheep »

My w17 announcement thread:
- Bring back airlocks, rageless gates was dumb but not having a place of safety to run to is probably even more dumb and was a big factor in this world being unpopular
- Revert hunting changes, Ive yet to see anyone who actually gives a shit about fighting animals "properly". Ive seen multiple people say they wouldnt even bother playing W17 if hunting wasnt reverted. Personally Im not that bothered but it just generally doesnt seem like anyone likes the changes
- Keep 0 travel weariness
- Expand on ring of brodgar idea making it an enclosed space with 0 crime and make it like an actual NPC village or something that everyone can port to and chill

Not gonna bother saying a big change because theyd never do it lol but in general I think the type of changes they should do are like ways to make cool bases, decorations, visual effects like colorful lamps, more industry spiralling or pve events

What they shouldnt do is rework siege or combat or kingdoms or anything that tryhard pvpers complain about because this world was practically like full cater to snail and the result was dead pop. The best thing for competitive players is more casual players. You cater to pvp by creating more ppl to gank.

+1. Villages being completely unaccesable when you're attacked is a strange concept.

Hard -1. This kind of changes are the things that keep me still in this game and it's a hill i'd die on, even if 50 % of the hardest autists want this game to 100% be farmville. The whole hunting system went one step closer to something proper, but now it's still a cheese-fiesta, just with a bow. I think the mechanics that make animals run when they can't reach you should break combat and (obviously) the de-aggro exploit should've been fixed like 5 years ago . . But overall i like the idea that hunting should be easier with horse + bow, just not as easy as it is right now. Maybe some moves for animals that give them a burst of speed? Ranged attacks (like roars)? Or what bosses have already, to spawn some smaller enemies to mess up with you. Lots of options available still.
I am really surprised by how little the community provides the devs with info about exploits . . i undestand the biggest sweats (snails), but it's like the whole population feels ok with exploiting the game mechanics :| :?:

On edge here, but the combination of no TW and group thingwalls is too much. I would probably leave the thingwall change, but TW (and will) had a reason to exist and i think they should come back in some way

On edge here . . I like the idea of a safe haven to meet with people, but this completely ruins the idea of localised trade in my opinion. This basically make everyone need to use forums and other outside chats to set up trades. I would like RoB to exist, but as a place where you can't use your inverntory / banter / drop things, purely as a social place.

No idea here . . I've never pvp'd, it looks unfun as hell so :|

as of the latest update it is now possible to surround animals with fence/signposts and then freely kill them, because the animals won't try to bash player-made structures (since it's you, I have to clarify that it works without claim)

now, do you think that this is an exploit? if yes, do you think that they are not aware of this and have to be provided with info?

if you think that this was an intended change from them (and therefore can't be considered an exploit), what kind of developer thought process can justify a change such as this one?

Didn't the animals bash those things before? Literally quoting yourself, why would the devs implement this? So it looks like it's unintended, hence it is an exploit.
Obviously it's beyond me why the devs don't hire some of the more devout autists to beta-tests anything for them, as it looks like they don't really do much of that themselves :?

The shared thingwalls might be too much but I think players like being able to TP around freely without arbitrary restriction. I could agree the group part shouldnt exist though.

It's not like brodgar replaced green temptations or actual markets. If people are just meeting to barter they can do that at the public well or anywhere it doesnt really matter

Well, yea - if there's no Travel Weariness. That's why it's hard to judge those changes separetely, because they all influence similar things. If it's so easy to make global markets, then the RoB doesn't change much, true.
I still liked the idea of smaller, more local markets. Global teleportation will make it go the other way, towards the centralisation of economy . . it'll also speed up the world progress, which i'm always against

okay, it's an exploit
do you think they are aware? if yes, how long (how many years, lmao) could the fix take? do you think that some sort of a message about them being aware of the exploit (and working on a fix) would be nice, or that they don't owe us any communication and we should shut up and buy more gold subs? :?
