Spike of Terrible Performance approx 5:30
I expereinced a spike of terrible performance at 5:30 or just before. Suddenly I was marching in place etc. I thought it had crashed, and was just about to panic, because I had precious stuff in inventory and had not just saved - but then I found it was just amazingly slow. Got a save through. Still appalling response. But then it recovered. I suppose it could have been my network connection, but we'd had milder issues earlier - very slow redraws when containers opened or closed - and both I and a companion had seen the same thing.

Both the website's and the game's network connection (basically the same network connection, but still) slowed to a halt. I actually closed my game thinking the server had crashed and I'd have to re-log in. I almost wish it was a crash because it would have duplicated a breast plate's worth of steel for us. Also, it was 11:30 us central time.

Yes, I know. There are a couple of important cron jobs running on the server at that time, and the I/O bandwidth they consume makes the account server grind to a halt, bringing the game server with it. Needless to say, the solution is for me to rewrite the account server to be more asynchronous (the current one is more or less a simple Python hack).
