I assume this was directed at me
half the steam games i play that get regular updates or DLC will post "news" that is actually just a link to some video, with no information contained within the news post at all. Risk of Rain 2 being one of the worst for this.
and I'm ALWAYS mad about it

I mean, sure, sounds a bit irritating, but saying that you would rather have no communication is crazy

Time to relaunch as a persistent co-op PvE survival adventure game. Main servers with the ability to player-host. Combat instances. Arenas, or agreed PvP/areas. Easy.

I've said it before, but the devs are just working in circles here to appease a small playerbase with encyclopedic game knowledge instead of actually progressing the game content forward. It doesn't help that half of the folks who have been playing this game for so long are supremely dedicated to griefing and gatekeeping the player count, not to mention exploiting game mechanics. I mean, we have people actively griefing safe zones right now in 16.2.

It really is the devs chasing a small group of people who make the game less enjoyable for others, just for those same people come onto the forum and complain about the game, and everyone wonders why no one wants to play anymore. I don't think this game will ever fully die because there are people who have treated it as their full time hobby for like a decade and will always play it. Rather, I think the it's the decent people and more casual players who actually make the game enjoyable to play socially that get filtered out.

I don't disagree with you entirely, but you seem to overstate the fact.
I see this all over and over, people try to weaponize a very complex issue this game has into something they want to speak only about.
You see, most playerbase doesn't come in first 2 months of a new world and don't see this ganks and other pvp cruelty, they mostly live totally outside of pvp, never see ganks or raids.
Instead, a list of other issues they face, like unable to progress in mine without crazy stat numbers, gating mechanics created for those top veteran players you mentioned, and other hardships that simply doesn't make haven a casual game.

I'm on this boat, I don't entirely disagree with what Nightmare said as well. there's problem that's for sure it's open world PVP game anyway (even with PVE only game ppl can still be a #@$ and ruin everyone's fun just like PVP).
I did join W16.2 around I don't know when was W16.2 release ? I come back to this game somewhere around first week of September and can't stop playing since.
I already put all the problem as a new player POV in my other post.

Dying early game is not really a big deal, but don't know how to progress is something else.
That one "Raid Ant Hill" quest is the Quit moment for every new player I can tell that much.
Don't let me start on getting into mining with all those Jimjam Rock name I don't even heard once before in my life.
I don't say to made it easier, I just want the game to be easier to learn, which is super different.

One of the major things That hooked me bout H&H was the drama revolving around criminal acts and such. The chars took a long time to develop and except for a very few most people had a live and let live status, but they defended their village/territory with a tenacity as well as the forums drama was delicious as you had "rangers" who would hear about some hearthlings on the forums getting attacked/killed and would go get the scents and "deliver justice"

Now there really is nothing to deter as death has basically lost its sting to those who are in the know on how mechanics and exploits work.

Man shut up and go play different game as there is nothing like haven and hearth, not even rogalia or salem. This game has been autisticly hand crafted to the point if you tried to find something like it you wont. The cool discovery system, the artistic view of different terrain bioms depending time of the day in game, like so many different little things, that simply wont be there in other games. So if you want to shut down haven and hearth, perhaps shut down yourself.
